Subject: [OKGIS] 9.2 MXD issue follow-up

I finally heard back from ESRI regarding some of the 9.2 issues we have been

experiencing.

Let me start off by addressing some known problems.

1. ESRI is aware that there are issues with MXDs that contain CAD files.
2. ESRI is aware that there are performance issues with MXDs that contain
raster data.

For our particular problem with the map book developer sample, ESRI is also
aware that there are issues with it in 9.2, but will not support it because
it is just a sample.

For those of you who use this handy developer's sample, Tech Support
recommended that I contact the San Antonio Regional Manager explaining how
important the sample is and how it really needs to be updated to function
properly in 9.2. Regional managers apparently have some clout in directing
the developers to address user issues. There apparently is rumbling within
ESRI that this should be incorporated into the standard software package,
but for whatever reason it has yet to happen. The regional manager for the
San Antonio office is:

Here are some generic things to try for MXD slow performance issues:

1. Rename your normal.mxt. Open up ArcMap to allow a new template to
generate. Apparently when 9.1 is uninstalled, the normal.mxt is not erased.

2. Set up a dummy default printer. Remove all of your existing printers.
Reboot the machine. Reinstall printers. Delete the dummy printer. [This
has helped some customers who experienced crashes due to ArcMap being unable

to find the default printer.]

I have found some useful threads in the ESRI User forums about problems
experienced with 9.2 As David Wheelock mentioned, it is extremely important

to inform ESRI Tech Support of any issues you may be encountering. Fixes
may not make it to Service Pack 1 at this point, but the developers won't
know what to fix for future SP's if these issues aren't logged!

Good luck,
Carrie
