Subject: [OKGIS] Digest Mode
All,
Today after GIS Council it was brought to my attention that some users
of the list may have inadvertently enabled "Digest Mode" on the list.
Enabling Digest Mode tells the listserve that you would like to receive
one email per day whether there are one or one hundred posts to the
list. Because more than one post is contained in the daily digest of
the list, the digested posts may be more confusing than if you were
receiving a message each time someone posted to the list.
FYI - list stats show 56 subscribers have enabled digest mode and 171
are "Non-Digested." (http://gis.ou.edu/mailman/roster/okgis)
Here is how to check / change your subscription settings:
1. Go to http://gis.ou.edu/mailman/listinfo/okgis
2. Near the bottom in the OKGIS Subscribers section enter your
subscribed email address in the text box next to the Unsubscribe or Edit
Options button and click the button.
3. You will be prompted for your password, enter it and click Log
In.
4. About -+ way down the page you will see Your OKGIS Subscription
Options.
a. In the set digest mode section choose On or Off (Off
tells the listserve you would like to receive each post separately as it
arrives).
5. Scroll to the bottom, Click Submit my Changes.
My personal opinion is that if you intend to participate in the list
(e.g. not just read posts) that it makes sense to turn Digest Mode off.
This will allow you to receive posts as they arrive - enabling you to
answer and receive answer to questions more rapidly. Furthermore,
replies to digests are confusing as they are not directly to a post.
This year the most posts to OKGIS in a single month was in May - a total
of 31. 1 per day. If the Oklahoma GIS Community arrives at a point when
the traffic on the OKGIS list is heavy enough to be irritating, we will
all have a good problem. In fact, last week I said that exact thing on
the Arkansas list.
