That should've been "Windows XP (SP2)".

Jenni,

What you're describing is pretty close to what I do, but for oil & gas
rather than commercial real estate.

I have a dual core Intel processor and 4GBs of RAM in my system, and
there are still days when I still bring my system to a crawl. I would
suggest getting as much power as your budget allows.

As far as the graphics apps, I exclusively use the Adobe Creative Suite
(CS). Adobe recently released CS 2.3 which upgrades Acrobat Professional
to version 8.0. The Adobe Creative Suite comes with a content management
app called Bridge that helps you organize all the files needed for a
project in one place. A rally point, if you will. It's very handy, and
works seamlessly with all of the CS apps.

By purchasing the entire Creative Suite, you're going to get several
pieces of software that you don't need, but it's still cheaper than
buying them individually. You're most likely going to need, Photoshop,
Illustrator, Acrobat, and perhaps InDesign. Illustrator CS2 can import
most .dwg CAD files.

I have 256MB of memory in my plotter, and have only choked it once.

I would recommend B&H Photo and Video www.bhphotovideo.com
<http://www.bhphotovideo.com/> if you're going to purchase the Adobe
Creative Suite. They have always beat CDW's prices in my experience.

I run MapInfo and REGIS on Windows XP Pro (SP3). Windows Vista being
released commercially early next year, but I wouldn't recommend
upgrading to that for at least 6 months to year after it's released.
Office 2000 works fine. Don't waste your money on Office 2003 because
Office 2007 is just around the corner. I would wait for Office 2007
early-mid next year.

Hope this helps!

Subject: [OKGIS] Corel Draw, Adobe or Canvas X?

As of next year, my company is changing directions and will be selling,
presenting and 'advertising' our oil and gas prospects. Therefore, I
need to expand my computer's graphing capabilities. I have used the
full Adobe Professional along with Corel Draw for manipulating my
graphics whether it was for PowerPoint, emailing, CD/DVD brochures,
and/or uploading to a website. But I recently joined a company here in
OKC that has no programs for this and I have been given purchasing
rights to implement a better system.

I use various formats including ESRI, Tobin, PDF, TIFF, Autocad, etc.
and as you all know these files can be huge. I need to import/export,
transfer, compress and 'play' with these files easily and efficiently.

Any suggestions as to what are the best graphic programs and which ones
are compatible???
Should I buy more than the 2 G of RAM I have on my computer or add RAM
to my plotter?
Company uses Windows XP Professional 2002 (SP 2) with Office 2000--do I
need to upgrade? (please say yes!)

Any help would be appreciated!
