No, no, I really do not wish to reinvigorate the discussion of whether it is
Barren or Baron Creek. Rather, I wish to share with you, dear Oklahoma GIS
community, a somewhat amusing piece from today's Morning Edition. The piece
should be of interest to all geographers, GIS folks, cartographers, and
virtually anyone else that has wondered why, oh why, do some geographic
places have more than one name? And what is the proper authority for
determining which name is correct? And why is it Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
but Pittsburg, Oklahoma? Etc. etc. etc.
