Thanks Todd.
I'm familiar with the BGN and GNIS and have even recommended a change
and had it approved. Hochatown was inundated by Broken Bow Reservoir
many years ago and was relocated, but the GNIS was never changed. In
2004 I provided the new location to the GNIS and they moved it in their
data.
The current plan is to have Wayne Furr, the OK representative to the
GNIS, give a presentation on the Barren/Baron/Barron Fork issue and the
GNIS in general at an upcoming GI council. After that, the council
could entertain a motion to recommend that the spelling be changed in
the GNIS.
Thanks again,
David

No, no, I really do not wish to reinvigorate the discussion of whether
it is Barren or Baron Creek. Rather, I wish to share with you, dear
Oklahoma GIS community, a somewhat amusing piece from today's Morning
Edition. The piece should be of interest to all geographers, GIS folks,
cartographers, and virtually anyone else that has wondered why, oh why,
do some geographic places have more than one name? And what is the
proper authority for determining which name is correct? And why is it
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania but Pittsburg, Oklahoma? Etc. etc. etc.
