Brad,

Just a reminder, individual boundaries may have been set by Court Order. You may have to check with the respective County Clerks if you are really trying to do something official.

We have paper copies of all of the published U.S. government soil surveys done by county for every state (although not every county in Oklahoma was done). Some Oklahoma counties were done way back in the 1910's, but most were done later in the 1950's-1970's. What counties are you after? We probably have them.

    Brad,

As you noted, the county boundaries were established with Article 17, Section 8 of the Oklahoma Constitution. In 1963, Title 19, Chapter 2, Section 36 was added to the Oklahoma Statutes declaring that where-ever the middle of each river or stream channel was as of January 1, 1963 is where the county boundary shall be.

The only set of 1960's aerial photography that is commonly available that I am aware of is in the old Soil Conservation Service soil books. Most (if not all) of these books are now out of print. For a particular county, I would suggest calling that NRCS office or Assessor's office. They may still have a copy on hand.

    Sincerely,

      Hello,

I had someone ask about the definition/description of exactly where a county line is. In this case it doesn't include a state boundary, however there is a river involved. We think the designation was changed from the centerline of the river however three locations I found online referenced the Oklahoma Constitution Article 17 Section 8 which does ref the river (see below). Does anyone know how to definitively locate the primary authority on these descriptions? I do notice that on the 1895 map the river is already being used as the boundary between Indian Territory and Cleveland County.

McClain County: Beginning on the center line of the Canadian River (sometimes called South Canadian), at its intersection with the range line between ranges four and five West; thence down along the center line of said Canadian River to its intersection with the range line between ranges three and four East; thence south along said range line to its intersection with the township line between townships four and five North; thence west along said township line to its intersection with the range line between ranges four and five West; thence north along said range line to the point of beginning. Purcell is hereby designated the County Seat of McClain County.

Cleveland County. Said County shall be and remain as it now exists under the Territory of Oklahoma, until hereafter changed under the provisions of this Constitution. Norman is hereby designated the County Seat of Cleveland County.

      Thanks

      Brad
