I'd like to respond to Joe McCollum's posting about DOL and MAPPS (see
below).  DOL has not made any decisions that I am aware of based on
feedback from MAPPS regarding industry definition.  Therefore, there has
been nothing like a DOL decision for or against MAPPS (or anyone else).


 

Further, it does not appear that the MAPPS litigation is a response to
our DOL project, but rather is part of a long-term lobbying effort on
the part of MAPPS.  MAPPS may have pointed out its agenda to DOL, but it
would be a mistake to see DOL as a focus of their efforts, which are
substantially more broad reaching.

 

If you find this subject matter of interest (and you should if you plan
to continue working in our profession) you will want to attend the
Associations Panel at GITA's annual conference in San Antonio in just a
few short weeks.  The panel will be held from 3:15 to 4:30 pm on
Tuesday, March 6 and will include representatives from AAG, ACSM, ASPRS,
GITA, MAPPS, NSGIC and URISA.  Should be lively!

Did DOL decide against MAPPS?  It looks like MAPPS has turned to the
courts if DOL didn't see it their way.
