If we're talking about an attribute table in ArcMap, it's fairly easy.
1. Open the attribute table.
2. Create the field if it's not already in the data table.
3. Select the records you need to update.
4. Move cursor to field name in your table and right click.
5. Select "calculate" from the drop down list.
6. Fill out the entries in the window that opens up.
There may be another step or two that I haven't exactly covered, but
this is the general gist of it.

Subject: [OKGIS] Field Calculations
All,
Does anyone know how to populate a text column using a field calculator?
For Example: I need to put FULL into a column for all of my 2000
records and I want to avoid typing it in 2000 times.
Any help would be great.
Thank you,
Nick
