I guess it all depends on your current and future needs. If you are okay
with being vendor-committed, I would probably go with APDM. If not, I
have heard a lot of good things about PODS.

All,
 
This may be more directed at the petroleum pipeline people.  
 
We are beginning to convert our pipeline data from AutoCadd to GIS.  I
know ESRI recommends the APDM standards/data model.  
 
Any comments on going this direction?  The data model looks a little
complicated for what we need, but I don't want to go wrong in the
beginning.  Results in the long term is what I am thinking about.
