[OKGIS] TCC GIS Courses

Just a quick reminder that Tulsa Community College is offering GIS courses 
next fall (August). These courses are a part of the new GIS Certificate
of Completion. Registration for these courses is now open (see 
www.tulsacc.edu for information on registration).  Three of these courses, 
Geo 2344, Geo 2354, and GIS 2383, will be offered as blended classes. A 
blended class is one that meets one night a week on campus. All subsequent 
class time is served via the Internet.

The following is a list of the courses to be offered: 
* GEO 2344 - Introduction to Geographic Information Systems (4 Credits)
An introductory course designed to acquaint students with the theory
and uses of Geographic Information Systems to capture, store, query,
and analyze data referenced to a location on the Earth?s surface. Topics
include history and applications, map projections, coordinate systems,
data sources, structures, and models, along with methods of data
acquisitions, management, manipulation, analysis, and visualization. The
lab component will provide students hands-on experiences with ArcGIS
software. Lecture 3 hours. Laboratory 3 hours.

*GEO 2354 - Computer Cartography (4 Credits)
This course will provide students with a brief history and an introduction
of cartography. Students will be introduced to the basics of map
creation, interpretation, and design. The lab component of this course
will introduce students to ESRI?s ArcView software mapping capabilities.
Lecture 3 hours. Laboratory 2 hours.

*GIS 2373 - GIS Data Acquisition and Management (3 Credits)
This course will serve as an introduction to spatial data acquisition for
Geographic Information Systems. Students will gain the experience
necessary in order to acquire, convert, and create spatial data. Emphasis
will be placed on Global Positioning Systems, Metadata, and the
creation and editing of data in a personal geodatabase. Lecture 2 hours.
Laboratory 3 hours.

*GIS 2383 - Advanced Geographic Information Systems (3 Credits)
Students will explore various components of spatial analysis and raster
data. The lab component of this course will provide students with an
introduction to the ArcGIS Spatial Analyst and 3D Analyst extensions.
This course is a continuation of the Introduction to GIS course (GEO
2344 or GIS 2344) course. Prerequisite: GEO 2344, GIS 2344, SUR
2344 or approval of instructor. Lecture 2 hours. Laboratory 3 hours.
