In the Select by Attributes window there is a function that lets you
select "NAME" Like ------. I'd suggest you start by picking "NAME" and
Like and then click on help. This will pull up instructions dealing with
wildcard characters which should help you decide how to finish the rest
of the criteria statement.

Another approach would be to add a field in your data set called
something like "MasterName" and you could combine Names that are the
same with some group name.

Subject: [OKGIS] Is there a way

Hello All,

I have a question regarding names:

I have a shapefile/feature with 13812 records in it. Many of the names
might be some like: Ameritex OG, Ametex Ener. Amtex Ener et al, (On and
On, You get the point). To me these are all the same.

Can I tell the system based on the name Ameritex to select these
records?

So I don't have to keep going "Name = 'Ameritex OG' or Name = 'Ametex
Ener.'

I think you get the point

Any help would be great.

Thanks,
Nick
