Learning To Think Spatially FIGURE 6.5 The dangers of an 
inappropriate map projection: (a) In this map, published in 
the Economist on May 3, 2003, concentric circles are 
erroneously superimposed on a Mercator map. As a result, the 
map incorrectly identifies regions that could be reached by 
missiles of various ranges launched from North Korea. (b) In the 
corrected map, published in the Economist on May 17, 2003, all 
of the United States and Canada are within range of the 
Taepodong-1 or Taepodong-2 missile. Reproduced with
