ESRI has been working hard to fix this problem.  We are working closely with them and have provided them some data however there are still some untested anomalies, for example exploding polygons (I'm not kidding) that haven't been fully tested.  We will be providing some additional data on Monday.  To their credit they are also working on some fixes that may repair corrupted data which if successful could save those who have it days/weeks/months of work.  However I would still recommend to anybody experiencing this problem to work on a copy of your data if you are going to test the patch.

It was released this week on Nov. 19.

Stu,

Thank you so much for alerting us to this issue.  We have a similar parcel publication strategy and I have no idea how many of our counties are digitizing true curves but I suspect several.  You probably just saved us A LOT of work.

For those of you who have staff, or know of agencies who have moved to ESRI release 9.2 service pack 6 or later (including 9.3) I strongly recommend that you pass this link on to them.

Any spatial data editor using true curves may be subject to multiple serious errors if they enter or edit true curves and then run topology.  Our statewide cadastral layer has been corrupted, basically from integrating several county datasets, where this happened.  Back-ups really can't help once data is corrupted unless you can go back to before you loaded service pack 6 and can re-create all the work since then - you would have had to keep a record.  Service pack 1 at 9.3 DID NOT fix the entire problem.  ESRI is working on a Service Pack 2 for 9.3 but errors caused by the bug or bugs identified in the forum will be very difficult to fix.  This should be more well publicized than it has been given the nature of the damage it can cause.
