Date: Thursday, June 23, 2011
Time: 10:00 a.m. PDT / 1:00 p.m. EDT / 5:00 p.m. GMT
Speaker: Eric Gakstatter , Editor, GPS World 's Survey Scene Newsletter and Geospatial Solutions
Platinum Sponsor: Hemisphere GPS
Duration: 60 minutes

Event Description

There's been a lot of discussion about how LightSquared's 4G LTE plans would affect GPS receivers. This webinar will focus specifically on how LightSquared would affect the medium and high-precision GPS user. Specifically, the surveying, mapping, and engineering user community. I will present and discuss actual test results from the Las Vegas test site as well as the New Mexico test site. I will also cover the background of the issue and how it's arrived at the point it is at today, and where it might head in the future. Furthermore, I will discuss how it might affect the non-U.S. GPS user community. The Technical Working Group (TWG) final report to the FCC is due on June 15, 2011. If it's available, I will discuss the contents of the report as well as the latest events of the days leading up to the webinar broadcast date. Finally, I will likely have a GPS design engineer join me for the webinar to offer a technical insight into the issue from an engineer's perspective, specifically addressing LightSquared's statement that "LightSquared and GPS can and will be able to coexist peacefully."

What You'll Learn:

  • Background about LightSquared and how we've arrived in this predicament.

  • Discussion about medium and high-precision GPS receiver RF front-end design.

  • Effects of LightSquared on medium and high-precision GPS data collected in Las Vegas and New Mexico.

  • How LightSquared might affect the non-U.S. GPS user community.
